The Fairytale Survey: Spontaneous Saturday (2)

This amazing survey was created by Mel @ The Daily Prophecy and it looked like so much fun. So without further to do, your second ever Spontaneous Saturday post: The Fairytale Survey.

PART 1. CLASSIC PRINCESSES.

Pinocchio – The boy whose nose grows when he lies.

Is there are book you lie about, because you feel ashamed for liking it?

Well, there are actually books I feel ashamed for NOT liking them. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it seems that EVERYONE loves Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars. I'm not saying they weren't good books, just that they were average 3 star-ers. I feel weird every time someone is shrieking about either book and I'm just standing there like, "Hi," In fact, this happened the DAY I am writing this post. I was standing in the vicinity, talking to someone, then suddenly two of my friends start ROLEPLAYING dialogue from The Fault in Our Stars and almost crying. Needless to say, the person I was talking to and myself slowly edged away, trying to convince others that we didn't know the roleplaying weirdos.

Beauty and the beast – The girl who fell in love with personality.

Which book do you love that has a hideous cover?

I don't think the cover of Edna in the Desert is hideous persay, I just didn't like the cover very much, but the book was amazing.

"Edna in the Desert was one of the funniesnn t, heartwarming coming-of-age novels I have read in a long time that's wonderfully crafted characters are bound to stick with you."

Snow white – Hunted down for her beauty.

Do you ever buy a book based on the cover alone and if so, what is the last one?

I have to remind myself.....I mean people, that I don't have an unlimited book budget (although no one could tell if they saw my latest Stacking the Shelves), so I truly can't tell you what book I have bought for its cover unless you count the Kindle Freebies I have bought just because it was YA. This can also be said for Netgalley books since I request willy nilly, then get a horrible requests vs. feedback ratio.

Sleeping beauty – Cursed to sleep, awakened by true loves kiss.

What is your favorite book couple?

Does anybody even need to ask me this question? It's June and Day from the Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu. I mean, I have been raving about them since I started blogging and driving all of my followers nuts because of my utter (and sometimes unhealthy) obsession with the series....and them.

Little Mermaid – Gave up on her old life for love.

Do you ever branch out to new genres or do you like to stick with the ones you know and love? If you try new things out, what is the latest book?
My two mainstream genres are Young Adult Science Fiction and Young Adult Contemporary Self-Help. My latest book that was out of my comfort zone was Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith which is actually sort of in my comfort zone, but it was just weird and crazy and insane. Besides that, I also read Breaking Free: True Stories of Girls Who Escaped Modern Slavery by Abby Sher which is nonfiction and COMPLETELY out of my comfort zone.

Cinderella – Who lost her shoe after midnight.

What is the last book that made you stay up all night?

A not-so-well-known fact about me is that you do not want to talk to me if I have gotten less than 8 hours of sleep. I am irritable, inconsiderate, and nothing like I actually am on a regular basis *bats eyelashes* Anyway, the purpose of mentioning that is say that I haven't stayed up very late at night to finish a book since The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting when I finished the book at 2 am. The latest however was more of a midnight fling (that sounds suggestive) when I stayed up to finish Me Since You by Laura Wiess.

PART 2. MIX-MATCH.

Aladdin – The poor boy who found a genie.

What is the latest book treasure/gem you found?

The only 5 star book I have read in March was The House of Hades. While this isn't a NEW gem, it a new gem in terms of in the last two years. I disliked The Mark of Athena because of....well that would take probably a whole blog post in of and itself. My point is that there have been some really good new books this month, but nothing great. Meanwhile, in February, I read Peaceful Genocide which was a true gem in a pile of sci-fi self-published books.

Alice in Wonderland – The girl who fell through a rabbit’s hole.

Which book made you really feel like you landed in another world?

Breaking Free: True Stories of Girls Who Escaped Modern Slavery would definitely have to be that book because I have never read anything like this, or imagined a world so different than my own. The other book that transported me to another world was Moon at Nine by Deborah Ellis. It was A. LGBTQ book B. Took place in the Middle East. If that doesn't tell you something about how different of a book this is, than I don't know what does.

"This could be one of the best, most confusing, and most controversial young adult books of 2014, that could pave the way for something new."

East of the sun and west of the moon – where a girl embarks on a journey to save her love.

Who is one of your favorite kick-ass heroines?

Everyone knows it's June and Katniss from Legend and The Hunger Games but because I don't want to sound like a broken record, I will say Alex(a) Hollens from Defy by Sara Larson. She was so kick-ass, confident, and such a good fighter. I literally sound like I'm praising Mulan, but the whole girl-disguising-herself-as-a-guy-and-fighting-to-protect-a-stuck-up-pretty-boy was such a great (if not already used) plot.

The Frog Prince – where an enchanted prince becomes human again.

What is a book you thought you would hate, but end up loving?

It's not that I thought I would hate this book, it was just that the plot seemed so paranormal, and unlike what I usually like to read, but I ended up really liking A Touch of Honor by J.P. Grider

Hansel and Gretel – left alone in the woods and captured by a witch.

Which duo (sister/sister, brother/sister) is your favorite and why?

I have scrolled through my Goodreads 'Read' shelf, and now I realize that I never read a book with siblings as the main characters. My most recent read with siblings that were almost main characters was Obsidian Eyes by A. W. Exley.

Little Red Riding Hood – almost eaten by a wolf dressed as her grandmother.

What book disappointed you after falling in love with the cover and blurb?

Unite by Jamie Campbell that I read for a blog tour was disappointing. The cover looked really weird and alien-ish. The plot of undercover aliens integrating themselves into our planet, and the rescue of the MC's best friend. It was so cliche, and I just have a lot of words for this book.

Rumpelstilskin – nobody knows his name.

Which book do you love that doesn’t get enough attention?
Clan by Realm Lovejoy was a thrilling, insightful, and thought provoking book with some KILLER quotes. You all know how much I love me some good quotes *qu e the end of improper grammar* Anyway, this is the 2nd best self-published book I have ever read and while it was a bit slow at the beginning, it roped me in gradually until I didn't know I was caught in its web of sheer amazingness.
"It doesn't matter if we're all different or clones of the same person. We will always find a reason to fight one another, to draw a lone what we like and don't like, a reason to be original, special, a self, to own something someone else doesn't, to be a somebody."
